Tampa – Susan Smith, President of the Democratic Progressive Caucus of Florida, has released the following statement:

The Democratic Progressive Caucus of Florida (DPCF) is excited to announce another round of endorsements in the August and November 2018 elections.

Recent victories in Florida and around the country show that voters are eager for strong progressives to lead with our shared values. The DPCF offers endorsements in races from US Congress to city commission to highlight those progressive champions who will represent the interests of everyday Floridians and not just the fortunate few.

Candidates applying for DPCF endorsement affirm their support for progressive policy positions on a wide range of topics, including world-class public education, gun safety, environmental protection, healthcare as a human right, and much more. Our caucus is committed to implementing progressive policies at all levels of government as a way to enhance Floridians’ quality of life. This election season is an opportunity for us to spotlight candidates who have the ability to carry the torch through our most dense cities, our sprawling suburbs, and our rural Floridian landscape.

We have reviewed candidates’ voting records and responses to our questionnaire and assessed the strength of their campaigns. The DPCF endorsement indicates a candidate is a progressive champion and that he or she is running a strong and competitive campaign. We do not endorse in every race. Gerrymandering creates situations where good progressive Democrats must often compete to serve, so we may choose to recognize more than one good choice in a race.

We applaud all the Democratic candidates who are standing and being heard. Running for office is a huge undertaking and they are all to be commended. Too many seats have gone unchallenged in prior election cycles and we are grateful for our Democratic candidates’ commitment to the political process.

The Democratic Progressive Caucus of Florida is proud to endorse:
