Tampa – Carolina Ampudia, M.D., President of the Democratic Progressive Caucus of Florida, and Mike Bonacolta, Chair of the DPCF Campaign Committee, have released the following joint statement following the Florida Democratic Party’s Leadership Blue Weekend:
The Democratic Progressive Caucus of Florida (DPCF) is excited to announce our first
round of endorsed candidates for the August and November 2022 elections. The DPCF offers endorsements in races from US Congress to city commission to highlight those progressive champions who will represent the interests of everyday Floridians and not just the fortunate few.
Candidates applying for DPCF endorsement affirm their support for progressive policy positions on a wide range of topics, including world-class public education, gun safety, environmental protection, healthcare as a human right, and much more. Our caucus is committed to implementing progressive policies at all levels of government as a way to enhance Floridians’ quality of life. This election season is an opportunity for us to spotlight candidates who have the ability to carry the torch through our most dense cities, our sprawling suburbs, and our rural Floridian landscape.
We have reviewed candidates’ voting records and responses to our questionnaire and
assessed the strength of their campaigns. The DPCF endorsement indicates a candidate is a
progressive champion and that they are running a strong and competitive campaign. We
do not endorse in every race. Gerrymandering creates situations where good progressive
Democrats must often compete to serve, so we may choose to recognize more than one good
choice in a race.
We applaud all the Democratic candidates who are standing and being heard. Running for
political office is a huge undertaking, and they must be commended.
The Democratic Progressive Caucus of Florida is proud to endorse the following candidates who will be on the Primary Election ballot for August 23rd:
US House of Representatives
Danielle Hawk – Congressional District 3
Maxwell Frost – Congressional District 10
Eddie Geller – Congressional District 15
Florida House
Dr. Olysha Magruder – District 22
Rishi Bagga – District 35
Anthony Nieves – District 47
Michele Rayner – District 62
Gabriel Gonzalez – District 119
In solidarity,
Carolina Ampudia, M.D., President
Mike Bonacolta, Chair, Campaigns Committee
